The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is why Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
